Getting Started with the Grayscale Tool
Open the Grayscale Image tool on HeronTool. Click the upload button and select an image (supports JPG, PNG, BMP, etc.). Once uploaded, a preview of the original appears. On the right panel, choose a conversion mode: Grayscale preserves luminance – ideal for printing or black-and-white photography; Monochrome keeps only pure black and white – often used for artistic effects or OCR preprocessing.
Adjusting Parameters and Converting
Fine-tune settings as needed:
- Brightness Offset: Adjust overall lightness, range -50 to +50.
- Contrast: Enhance or reduce black-white difference; start with default values.
- Dithering: If enabled, monochrome mode uses a dithering algorithm to simulate intermediate tones, suitable for low-resolution output.
Click Convert – a preview appears in seconds. If satisfied, click Download to save; otherwise, tweak parameters and retry. All processing happens locally – no images are uploaded, ensuring privacy.
Batch Processing Tips
For multiple images, use the batch upload feature on HeronTool (drag and drop several files at once). Images are processed one by one, with independent settings per image. It's recommended to process one as a template, then copy the parameters to the rest – saves time.

Q: The converted image looks too dark – what to do?
A: Increase brightness offset (+10~+20) or lower contrast.
